MY SITE
ABOUT ME
Dear Readers,
My name is Savanah Beavers and welcome to my portfolio. Whether you came across it due to academic, professional, or personal reasons, I would like to thank you for taking your time to read through my site. To give a bit of background, I am a sixteen year old living in rural Illinois. Being a junior, I have yet to receive my high school diploma, but I plan to study theoretical and mathematical physics with a pre-law emphasis in the future. Outside of school, I enjoy distance running and reading. I have been running cross country and track and field for six years now and every time I take the first quick steps, breathing in cool air and pumping my arms, it still feels as magnificent as the first time. Reading-wise, some of my favorites include We Were Liars and The Secret History by Donna Tartt. I have always been fascinated by things that make me think a little deeper, question my existence and life as I know it. And with that note, here is the point of this ePortfolio, the why it exists at all: English 102. Along with many other “high level” classes, I chose to take dual credit English this semester. With little shame, I can bluntly say English 101 was one of the worst classes I have ever taken. Not that the materials covered and the assignments assigned throughout the course were difficult, but that maybe it wasn’t the right time for me to take the class. It is not that I should have waited until next year when I am more “mature” or “relaxed”, but that I haven’t been in the right headspace towards education lately. I often mourn the loss of my past selves, romanticising what was and what could have been. Disregarding that this is an assignment and I do not have much choice in whether to complete it or not, my purpose for the creation of this ePortfolio is to refocus academically, prove to myself that I am still as intelligent and hardworking as I was in the past. According Auburn University, who themselves assign students to complete an ePortfolio for academic and professional reasons, ePortfolios allow students to “communicate and showcase skills, experiences, and learning; [display] diverse artifacts, documents, and media; and contextualize those artifacts for potential employers, graduate schools, etc.” (Auburn University 2020). By being given the opportunity provided by the ePortfolio to do the above things, I am also allowed a chance to accomplish my previously mentioned goal, to reinstate myself in the classroom. I suspect and hope that the creation of this site will challenge me to grow and think about something in a different way than I previously did. Sincerely, Savanah |
